Cartoonist/Illustrator Ricco Schacherl

Today, I discovered the work of Ricco Schacherl of Johannesburg, South Africa. He had a delightful cartoon for Illustration Friday's word, "flying."

I like how the cartoon shows the tension and hope in spreading your wings and flying. At the same time, the "kick me" sign shows it's not easy spreading your wings.

Picture Book Maker: Helllp! Perspective!

Nathan Clement is a first-class illustrator with tons of talent and an all-around good guy.

His latest post shows how he got some help with a tricky perspective problem. In the process, he revealed a great site from another artist, Julie Duell. Both sites are rich in illustration and art information.

Vhrsti: Illustration Friday: Routine

While I am thinking what to do for Illustration Friday, I've been looking at other's works.

Vhrsti is an illustrator from the Czech Republic. I love how he portrayed this theme in a wordless comic strip.

The first six panels look deceptively simple. Then the last panel makes such an impact because of its size and detail. Nice job!

I discovered Max Estes through drawn.ca. I like his humor. He has a nice style and great flickr page too.

What I find interesting about his work is his bold shapes and energy.

Beginner tutorials for Adobe Illustrator

Tony Soh at the istockdiary.com blog has been doing some tutorials for the beginning Adobe Illustrator user.

My drawing software of choice has been Adobe Illustrator for several years. I like the fact artwork is scalable. You don't have to worry about enlarging your artwork only to see everything pixelated. Yuck!

It works well with my cartoony style. Even if I am doing something realistic, I usually do the base artwork in Illustrator and export my work to Adobe Photoshop.

If you are an illustrator, I highly recommend Adobe Illustrator.

I found this great link from an Egyptian born illustrator. The illustration reminded me of an old toy firetruck my grandfather had. We played on that rusty thing for hours.

This is a great illustration because Hatem uses texture to give it an organic feel. I was surprised this is a digital illustration.

Christian Elden: Sugar Frosted Goodness Blank Book

Coworker, friend, and all around great guy, Christian Elden, has just finished being part of the Sugar Frosted Goodness Blank Book Project.

He has a preview on his site. He chose to use the Paramount Theater in Anderson, Indiana as his subject.

Christian has a great style on the computer. It is also nice to see some of his freehand work. He has a nice versatility between his stylized, cartoon work and his more realistic flair.
