Webcomic: Mom of Fear

Webcomic of two boys. One has a mask. The other says, "That's nothing. When I want to get scared, I look at Mom's to-do list."

Since Halloween is coming up, I've been looking at things that bring me fear. And yes, to do lists are at the top of my fear list.

Webcomic: The Family Blog

Cartoon of a boy at a computer. Boy says to Mom, "I'm writing a blog. Does your family or Dad's have the most sordid details?"

There are no sordid details in my blog... at least none I'm aware of. It seems safe to talk about yourself as opposed to loved ones. If that doesn't work, make a cartoon out of them and distort the details enough so no one recognizes themselves.

Webcomic: Political favors

Cartoon of a press conference. A reporter says, “Senator! Any truth to the rumor you exchanged political favors for RAM?”

This is an illustration I did back in 1996 for the sixth edition of the "New Rider's Internet Yellow Pages."

When I drew this, RAM was much more of an issue. Computers were powerful but RAM was still pricey. Today, I'm guessing politicians exchange Iphones for political favors.

Bonfire with Friends

Cartoon of two mice at a bonfire and a cat. A mouse says, "Nothing like a bonfire with friends, is there?"

The thing I like about bonfires in autumn is the mysterious, spooky feeling. I can see what's going on around the bonfire, but what's lurking out there beyond the warm glow? Only The Shadow knows. Wait! That's "What evil lurks within the hearts of men." Sounds like Halloween to me.

Webcomic: Grow, Baby Grow!

Cartoon of a couple in garden with giant fruit. Guy says, “Just what kind of fertilizer did that guy on the gardening site recommend?”

This is an illustration I did back in 1996 for the sixth edition of the "New Rider's Internet Yellow Pages."

I do not have a green thumb. I have avoided "Farmtown" on Facebook for this reason. Why spend time to see virtual plants die when I can do it in the comfort of my back yard?

Cartoon: Kitchen Serenade

Webcomic of a mom and boy with guitar. The boy says, "Let me serenade you before you see the mess in the kitchen."

Music can cure the savage mom. Just be sure to sing something she likes. I know, it may hurt your musical sensibilities, but if you're already in trouble, you might as well be flexible.

Fine Arts Tech

Cartoon of man with wrecked computer. He says, "It wasn't working so I converted it into a fine arts piece."

This is an illustration I did back in 1996 for the sixth edition of the "New Rider's Internet Yellow Pages."

Ironically enough, when I first tried to post this, my computer crashed. It must have been offended by the whole gag. Well, it wouldn't be the first time I've offended someone. It happens whenever you deal in humor.

Cartoon: Act your Age

Cartoon of a grandfather and grandson. The grandfather says, "Anyone who tells you to act your age is a boogerhead!"

Advice can be quite subjective. I have often wondered if I've given the correct advice to my kids. What is the correct advice anyway? Yelling "Boogerhead!" and running away rarely works. How would I know? Don't ask.

Cartoon: Retirement Plan

Cartoon of a couple at a computer. The man says, “At our current savings rate, we should be able to retire in three hundred and twenty-seven years.”

This is a classic cartoon I did back in 1996 for the sixth edition of the "New Rider's Internet Yellow Pages."

I have a much better retirement plan. I close my eyes and toss the prospectus in the round file. Who needs to worry yourself with all that red ink?

Taste for Adventure

Cartoon of a boy with a bike and a helmet. Boy says, “Whenever I wear a helmet, I have a taste for adventure.”

Clothes make a man. A helmet makes for adventure. I've had issues with bike helmets. I've often wondered if they made them look more adventurous would more people wear them. Right now, bike helmets just look dorky.

Cartoon: Steam Powered PC

Cartoon of two men next to an Victorian-looking computer. One says, “There’s a good chance your computer isn't environmentally friendly.”

This is a classic cartoon I did back in 1996 for the sixth edition of the "New Rider's Internet Yellow Pages."

I picture this computer belonging to Charles Dickens at one time. I can just see him typing out, "Please, sir, I want some more." Of course, Charles would have been thinking about more RAM when he thought of that.

Cartoon: Ace in the Hole

Cartoon of two boys staring at a manhole. Boy says, "Sorry , Mister. At least you can say you were part of a home run."

There are two activities that let you know summer is here; baseball and construction. It's a glorious thing when they are combined. It's also sad to see them come to a close as fall comes upon us.

Let's hope there are no open manholes at the upcoming baseball playoffs. I'd like to see the Atlanta Braves play the Detroit Tigers in the World Series. I won't call it a prediction nor a strong hope. If the Cincinnati Reds win a wildcard game, then my strong hope may surface again.

Cartoon: Preaching on Youtube

Cartoon of two men. One says, "Great sermon. I already uploaded the highlights to Youtube."

Technology is changing the churches I've been in. Almost everyone has a projector now and many have wireless Internet. It makes me wonder how the church will look in twenty years.

I drew this cartoon for The Church of God E-Newsletter.

Cartoon: Recycling Education

Cartoon of two children and an old computer at a bust stop. The caption reads, "Melanie's dad found a unique way to recycle his old computer.

This is a classic cartoon I did back in 1996 for the sixth edition of the "New Rider's Internet Yellow Pages."

When I drew this cartoon, I thought the PC looked somewhat modern. Is that a 3 1/2" or a 5 1/4" floppy drive? Where's the SCSI cable? What do you mean it's wireless?

Cartoon: Birthday cheer

Cartoon of two girls. One says, "Happy Birthday! You don't look a day over seven."

My sister has a birthday today. She looks a little older than seven, but still much younger than me. That's the way it should be. All is right in the world.

Cartoon: Wipe the Slate Clean

Cartoon of a boy and teacher. The boy says, "It's hard to wipe the slate clean when you use a permanent marker."

I've often heard people say, "I'll forgive, but you better believe I won't forget." It is a difficult thing to do, isn't it. If I've slighted you, I hope you've forgotten about it. It wasn't on purpose... honest!

I drew this in Adobe Illustrator CS3.

Cartoon: Your a Mac, I'm a PC

Cartoon of a couple at a romantic dinner. The man says, “The question remains: can a Mac person and a Windows Person get along in marital bliss?”

This is an illustration I did back in 1996 for the sixth edition of the "New Rider's Internet Yellow Pages."

I can say a Mac and PC relationship can work beautifully, thank you very much. It has for at least seven of our twenty years.

Romantic Patterns

Cartoon of a boy and dad with flowers. Boy says, "Last night, you two argued. Today, you come home with flowers. I detect a pattern."

Handy tip, guys. Flowers do the trick. And if you ever think it's better to be right than have peace, you'll want to dig a trench because it will be a long, cold war.

I drew this for Illustration Friday. This week's word is "Pattern."

Cartoon: Bad Internet Cooking

Cartoon of wife at computer and husband. Wife cries, “Someone told the gourmet cuisine site about my cooking and now they won’t let me in.”

Bad news travels fast, doesn't it? Especially with the speed of the Internet on the side of the rumor mill.

This is a classic cartoon I did back in 1996 for the sixth edition of the "New Rider's Internet Yellow Pages."

Cartoon: Call from Mom

Cartoon of boy and teacher. Boy says, "I'll answer that in a second. But first, let me take this call from Mom."

It's a good thing I didn't have a cell phone in school. I probably would have been calling for a lifeline every few minutes.
