Illustration Friday: Adrift

Illustration Friday: Adrift, originally uploaded by speartoons.
Cartoon of cat and dog on and iceberg. Dog says, “On the bright side, at least the snow has melted.”

When this week's word, "adrift," came up for Illustration Friday, I thought of all the snow in my backyard and my poor pets. They have had a hard time with the snow. And Indiana hasn't gotten the kind of snow that has assaulted the east coast. We've had only a small taste of Snowmageddon.

I drew this in Adobe Illustrator CS2

Comic: Snowman Disaster

Cartoon of  girl and snowman. Girl says, “So maybe the hot tub was a bad idea.”

There's lots of snow here this week. Snow people have been sprouting everywhere. There are certain things these new citizens should not enjoy. Hot tubs are one of many potential hazards for the common snow individual. Be sure to warn them.

Six more weeks... stupid groundhog!

CNN is reporting Punxsutawney Phi has seen his shadow once again . The oversized rodent says there are six more weeks of winter in these United States. The weatherman keeps threatening more snow in Indiana, so Phil must be right.

My heart was broken. Yet, I had enough strength to spread the news the low tech drawing way, via a chalk interface device. Thanks to cameras, I can spread it high-tech too.

Whenever something catches my attention, or just bugs me, I have to let it out somehow. Drawing or doodling is the best way for me. I might as well get some creative mileage out of it.

I'm thankful for some new chalkboard paint at work. It's a great new outlet that doesn't involve pixels or bezier curves. It's okay to be low tech once in a while.

Illustration Friday: Confined

Illustration Friday: Confined, originally uploaded by speartoons.
Illustration of a mom and two children looking at the snow from a window. There is nothing like a snow day to bring the joy to children and depression to parents.

Yes, my kids have a snow day today. And mom is home with the gang. I hope she is having a better day than the poor women in this illustration.

I drew this for Illustration Friday. This week's word is "confined."

Weather can sure seem flawed. One day, it can be blizzard conditions. The next day, people are wearing shorts and flip-flops.

I drew this in Adobe Illustrator.

Frozen Duck

Frozen Duck, originally uploaded by speartoons.

Ice Baby! The poor duck is stuck in the ice. I can't imagine how this poor guy feels. Whenever I drive by a park and see those ducks in a pond, it makes me wonder if something like this has ever happened.

I drew this in Adobe Illustrator.

There is something about January that brings out the grump in people. If the weather has been bad, it's a catalyst to the whole thing.

Then again, I start to wonder if I am the catalyst. Nobody likes someone who's in a good mood if they're in a bad one. I just may be too annoying to some.

I drew this in my sketchbook. I used a Pilot Pecise pen and Prismacolor pencils.

Illustration Friday-Pale

On a cold, January day, this image popped into my mind when I heard the word, "pale."

Illustration Friday: Backwards

Illustration Friday: Backward, originally uploaded by speartoons.

It's been snowing in my hometown. Looks like most of the northern United States has put of with this weather.

I miss the days I went sledding with my son. Now, he is taller than me. Getting on the sled just isn't as easy as it used to be!

Snow switch

The snow was bad enough here to close the schools yesterday, today and tomorrow. However, if this wasn't the case, I wonder if my son would have a similar conversation tomorrow as he waited for the bus.

IF: Crash

We have a blizzard warning in Indiana today (February 13, 2007). Everyone is staying put and watching the snow pummel us. As soon as the wind and the snow dies down, I'm sure my kids will try to get out there and have some fun. After all, school is closed. I can just imagine this scene happening somewhere in the Midwestern US today.

If you live in colder, snowy climates, do you remember the time you transitioned from loving the snow because of all the fun things to do and dreading it because you would have to drive in it? I remember the first time I drove in freezing rain. I tapped the brakes and my car immediately made a 180 degree turn. It scared me to death. I wanted to leave the car where it was, grab a sled and forget the whole driving thing.

Looking for love in January

In January, we look for love. We look for something to warm the cold. Success comes by February 14th.

That desert of time between Christmas and Valentine's day is a time when a lot of people do some searching. Luckily, I've already found love. But I remember those cold winter days. I'd shed a tear if it wouldn't freeze to my cheek.

Snowman Convertible

It's getting cold here. I was thinking about the poor souls with convertibles. It's a shame you can't use them in an Indiana winter... unless you're a snowman.
