Webcomic: I'm Flying!

Webcomic-Illustration Friday: Flying

Cartoon of injured boy. He says to another, "I learned even if it feels like you're flying, it isn't worth it to jump off a swing in mid air."

Yes, I tried this a few times as a child. The swing is an unforgiving master. I got smacked in the back a few time. But I didn't get any broken bones. I have no idea how I escaped that fate!

I drew this comic for Illustration Friday. This week's word is "Flying."

Cartoon: Ace in the Hole

Cartoon of two boys staring at a manhole. Boy says, "Sorry , Mister. At least you can say you were part of a home run."

There are two activities that let you know summer is here; baseball and construction. It's a glorious thing when they are combined. It's also sad to see them come to a close as fall comes upon us.

Let's hope there are no open manholes at the upcoming baseball playoffs. I'd like to see the Atlanta Braves play the Detroit Tigers in the World Series. I won't call it a prediction nor a strong hope. If the Cincinnati Reds win a wildcard game, then my strong hope may surface again.

Cartoon: Tastes in television

Cartoon of girl and teddy bear. Girl says “I don’t like your taste in television.”

I wonder what the bear wants to watch? The obvious choice would be "Animal Planet." Then again, maybe he's a Sponge Bob fan.

You know it's getting close to the end of a school break when kids argue with even inanimate objects. If the object brings the kid to tears, then you know it's time for a nice, family walk around the neighborhood.

Enjoyed a day at the beach

Enjoyed a day at the beach, originally uploaded by speartoons.

I've been on vacation this week. Here is a sketch from the beach. I'll be back next week for some more blogging.

Illustration Friday: Unfold

These boys are enjoying a couple of marshmallows around a campfire. Will there be scary stories? Will a coyote or owl disrupt their outing? Who knows what will unfold next.

This is part of my clip art assignment for Warner Press. They own the copyright. If you would like to use it, you must contact them at wporders@warnerpress.org.

I drew this in Adobe Illustrator CS3.

Drawing a Day 019

Spear 3462, Drawing a Day #19

Cartoon of three boys on a medals stand. One says, "Do we have to do this every time you win something?”

I have to do something while I'm watching the Olympics. This one came when I saw a few pouting faces as the medals were presented. Cheer up guys! There's always four years from now.

If you need a cartoon on a specific subject, send me an email and I can help you out.

Curly Slide Celebration

I remember when my daughter faced the challenge of the curly slide. She celebrated when she made it down on her own.

It's those little successes that taste so sweet.

Illustration Friday: Geeky

If laptops were around thirty-five years ago, this probably would have been be. No, not the girl with the laptop, I would have been the boy looking over her shoulder and wishing I could use it.

I lived vicariously through others. Just ask my brother. I convinced him to by the comic books so I could read them.

Illustration Friday: Cars

When you live in Indiana, racing takes all your attention in May. Cars are a natural fit for this week's theme.

It's fun to see boys get all excited when they race cars. They can think up some original tracks. They combine racing with a theme park ride to make the ultimate car experience.

This time of year brings back great memories of leaf piles, trick or treating and Grandma's strawberry pie (her pumpkin pie was okay but ooh! That strawberry!)

One of the things I'm not keen about growing up is when you have to act responsible when there is work to be done. Forget the raking! Can't I just jump in those leaves once?

Of course, the other downside of growing up is the forty-year old, big body isn't taking that jump in the leaves as that ten year-old body. Someone get the ambulance, please.
